Brimming with sweetness, style and old-school charm, one could call country recording artist Judy Kanyo the Sandra Dee of the music business. Since embarking on her professional career in 2005, the Canadian-born singer/songwriter has effortlessly

Captured the hearts of fans around the world.

Her delightful and wholesome songs have earned her top spots on the country charts, as well numerous awards and critical acclaim. Reviewers from around the world say Kanyo’s sound is classic, true to its roots and bound to launch her to international stardom.

“(Judy’s music) is bound to launch her into the stratosphere,” said Bill Hennes, founder of www.allaboutcountry.com.

While Judy admits she adores and appreciates the compliments, she says the opportunity to make music is what truly sets her all aflutter.

“I’ve been singing since I was a little girl and have always loved it so much,” said Kanyo, whose current single, “You Wouldn’t Lie To An Angel (Would You)? recently reached No. 3 on New Music Weekly’s Hot 100 Singles Chart.

“My mom would play Doris Day, Connie Francis and Doris Day on the record player every morning and I’d be singing their songs all the way to school. In my heart, I always knew that one day I would follow my dream of becoming a singer.”

During the years leading up to Kanyo’s venture into country music, she was busy raising a family and working as a flight attendant for Air Canada.   After raising her two children, Judy knew it was time to get back to her beloved music.

Her first step was writing a few songs and booking a studio where she could record them. The first tune she wrote and released, “Darlin’ It’s Over,” reached No. 5 on the Canadian Country Music Charts and remained in the spot for 13 weeks. The song, a cut from Kanyo’s “Inside Out” CD, also earned her three nominations from the European Country Music Association (ECMA): Top Artist of the Year, Top Female Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Future Star.

Her 2007 holiday single, “Mistletoe My Cowboy & Me,” reached No. 1 on the European Country Music Award Chart. It also was nominated by the ECMA for Song of the Year, 2007 and Top Christmas Song, 2009.

“My sound started out real traditional, almost like Patsy Cline,” said Kanyo, whose single “It Must Be Rain” was placed on Air Canada’s in-flight music programming. “But over time, I progressed into newer country. I like to take the past and present sound and mix them up to create something unique.”

Kanyo released her sophomore CD, “Not What I Had In Mind,” in 2007. The title track reached No. 8 on the New Music Weekly’s Hot AC Main Chart in September, 2008.

The project was produced at Quad studios in Nashville with top musicians, including Craig Kramp (Journey), Garry Talent (E Street Band) and Marc Jordan (Van Morrison Band). It was nominated for Album of the Year, 2007 by the European Country Music Awards.

In recent months, Kanyo’s been performing with her new band at venues and festivals in Canada and the U.S. She hopes to get back into the studio soon and deliver something to her fans in true Kanyo style – fresh, original and always a kick!

“I like to appeal to people of all ages and walks of life, especially the kids,” said Kanyo. “It’s so nice when a teenager comes over to my CD table and buys one. To me, that’s the biggest compliment of all.”
